On December 21, 2002, my then-husband David was walking on the sidewalk when 2 cars collided at an intersection in Marine Park, Brooklyn. One sped onto the sidewalk, hitting him. His left leg was amputated 4 inches above the knee. We were both 32 years old. I took care of David, from wheelchair to crutches to prosthetic leg. This project documents his pain and his recovery...dealing with the loss of his limb and learning to walk again. I took the photos January through July 2003.
